He was the founding director of Salmond Reed Architects, and in 2007 was awarded the Queen’s Service Order (QSO) for his contribution to the preservation of New Zealand’s heritage of great buildings.
Jeremy has labored on the restoration of main historic buildings throughout New Zealand, together with the previous Auckland Jewish Synagogue and plenty of marae, Auckland’s Civic Theatre, the Pompallier Printing Home in Russell, St Matthew in-the-Metropolis Church Auckland, Sacred Coronary heart Cathedral in Wellington, Auckland Artwork Gallery, the previous Auckland Chief Publish Workplace and Auckland Struggle Memorial Museum. He was the heritage architect for the Britomart Precinct in Auckland.
A grandson of the well-known Dunedin architect, Louis Salmond, he was introduced up in Gore and studied first at Otago after which at Auckland. After finishing a Bachelor’s diploma, he labored in England, earlier than resuming post-graduate research, lastly establishing his personal Devonport observe.
His thesis for his Grasp of Structure in 1982 was subsequently printed as: Previous New Zealand Homes: 1800-1940. This landmark publication is now in its eighth version. In 2010 he co-wrote Villa: from Heritage to Modern.
Along with his spouse Dame Anne Salmond, Jeremy established Waikereru Ecosanctuary in Gisborne, with its uncommon and endangered native crops and animals and prize-winning buildings.
In 2020 The College of Auckland recognised Jeremy with the Distinguished Alumni Award, and in 2002 he was elected as a Fellow of the Auckland Museum for his contribution to the observe of constructing conservation in New Zealand. In 1991 he was elected a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Architects for his “excellent contribution to the conservation of historic buildings.”
A lot liked for his generosity, kindness, and wit, Jeremy is survived by Dame Anne and their three kids, Amiria, Steve and Tim. He shall be farewelled at 10am on Saturday 7th January at St. Matthews within the Metropolis in Auckland.
