Each choice made by designers Andrea Conti and Isabel Cert for this interesting rooftop condo in Barcelona—from the flooring to the ceiling, the furnishings to the finishes—was made with simplicity and timelessness in thoughts. Nothing is extraneous or overly designed. It looks like an actual residence—albeit one that’s exceedingly fashionable.
On their web site, they describe their agency, Conti, Cert, as “an inside design studio with a philosophy and a method of doing issues…by which nothing is only for nothing.” We not too long ago requested them to share the whats and whys that went into this mission, a 1,600-square-foot, attic-floor flat for a younger household. Yesterday, Andrea allow us to in on the main points of the kitchen. At present, she provides us a tour of the remainder of the house.

Above: Retaining the spirit of the 1880 constructing alive was paramount for the purchasers and designers each. To take action, Conti, Cert needed to subtract and add: A low “false ceiling” was taken all the way down to reveal excessive vaulted ceilings, whereas hexagonal tiled flooring was reinstated per the unique design, says Andrea. Above: The condo pre-renovation felt like “a really outdated, darkish home with many rooms,” says Andrea. The kitchen was previously in the midst of the condo, which siloed the dwelling space from the remainder of the house. For improved circulation, the designers moved the lounge to the middle and opened up the eating space. Above: The view from the eating space into the kitchen. The steps lead up and out onto the rooftop terrace. “We determined to design two large steps that may also be used for sitting; the wooden provides them a pure feeling that breaks with the hydraulic ground.”
