It’s no coincidence that these patterned chairs are strikingly regal—they had been initially made as thrones by the Yoruba individuals of Nigeria and different components of West Africa. Every is beaded over each inch of its floor, entrance, again, and sides—tiny seed beads are hand sewn onto cloth stretched over picket frames.
The work has religious which means and ornamental impression, and displays each longstanding traditions and European influences. For sure, every chair takes months to finish and no two are precisely alike.
Of late, Yoruba beaded seating is coveted the world over. We had been launched to our first instance in Paris idea retailer Merci’s showcase residence (proven above and beneath). Since then, we’ve been amassing sightings, and have but to come across an instance that isn’t spectacular. Come see.
Merci’s Nigerian Beaded Armchair was sourced from CSAO of Paris, which presently has a number of beaded Yoruba chairs priced from €2,900 to €3,200. Additionally see the choices from Design Combine Gallery of LA, which embody a black-and-white checked, rounded Yoruba Beaded Chair for $2,400.
