“I might say greater than 60% of the furnishings I personal is classic, upcycled, or handmade. All the pieces has a historical past, which I like,” says the designer. One living proof is the curved sectional in the lounge, which, as she places it, “screams me the loudest,” and which she thrifted and reupholstered in a Home of Hackney material and embellished with a fringe. “I’m obsessive about that fringe. There’s one thing about the way in which the sunshine shines by it within the morning and at evening,” she provides. (Her favourite is the textured grasscloth Home of Hackney wallpaper in the lounge, which she says evokes probably the most lovely heat.) “What was as soon as so sterile became a comfortable, moody sanctuary that’s good for me and my chickens,” she muses. Some issues, such because the pure oak flooring, the lounge hearth, and the wainscoting within the eating room, had been left the way in which they had been in a deliberate effort to honor the house’s historical past.
