We’re longtime followers of Donald Judd, particularly his minimal daybed, which we’ve been recognizing these days in interiors—DIY variations included.
Unique daybeds by Donald Judd can go for as a lot as $20,000 at public sale; new ones, made by the artist’s longtime craftsman, California-based Jeff Jamieson, will also be ordered from Judd Furnishings. This week, in honor of our In Mattress subject, we’re revisiting 11 Judd-inspired spots for lounging, sitting, sleeping, and studying:
Above: Some time again we dropped in on Malgorzata Bany and Tycjan Knut’s north London rental (see 1,000 Sq. Toes on a Finances: An Artist’s Loft in North London) and admired their DIY Judd-esque daybed. The couch is constructed from the bottom of a settee mattress, one thing generic purchased by Tycjan’s sister on-line. Malgorzata ordered foam minimize to measurement and lined it with heavy duck cotton she sewed herself. The Donald Judd–impressed field is constructed from birch ply coated with Osmo Snow White Wooden Wax End.Above: Ann Stephenson and Lori Scacco, house owners of A Stylish Fixer-Higher on Hearth Island, Finances Version, sourced their daybed from Brooklyn designer Corinne Gilbert.Above: The group behind Villa Lena in Tuscany created a Donald Judd–esque seating association constructed from pine; see extra at Villa Lena: A New Inventive Hub (and Resort) in Tuscany.
