We brake for grottages: garages transformed into cottages (our personal Michelle Slatalla invented the time period for her personal place). This one is the work of LA home flipper-turned designer-builder Shanty Wijaya of Allprace. Wijaya changed the crumbling dwelling on the property with a spec development, and rebuilt the stays of its one-car storage as this companion ADU to be used as a visitor home, pool home, work house, or rental.
The brand new predominant home takes its inspiration from Catalan modernism and the ADU is a mini-me model, crammed with a excessive/low mixture of options for small-space residing. Be part of us for a tour.

Above: The 400-square-foot construction in West Adam, close to Culver Metropolis, occupies what had been a derelict one-car storage (the couch wall is what was preserved of the Nineteen Thirties authentic). It stands alongside a pool, and has an all-in-one residing space at one finish (scroll all the way down to see the ground plan). The herringbone flooring consists of brick tile from Arto, a longstanding native enterprise. The archways and mixture of heat oak and pale concrete echo the detailing in the principle home.Above: The customized kitchen has rift-sawn oak cupboards set in a framework completed in Concretta, a concrete plaster or microcement additionally used on the island, which as a Fisher & Paykel induction cooktop.
