Samuel Beckett Bridge

Samuel Beckett Bridge is a cable-stayed swingbridge in Dublin, Eire that joins Sir John Rogerson's Quay on the south facet of the River Liffey to Guild Road and North Wall Quay within the Docklands space.

Architect Santiago Calatrava was the lead designer of the bridge. He was assisted with the civil and structural points of the design by Roughan & O'Donovan consulting engineers.

Constructed by a "Graham Hollandia Joint Enterprise",the principle span of the Samuel Beckett Bridge is supported by 31 cable stays from a doubly back-stayed single ahead arc tubular tapered spar, with decking offered for 4 site visitors and two pedestrian lanes. It’s also able to opening by means of an angle of 90 levels permitting ships to move by means of. That is achieved by means of a rotational mechanism housed within the base of the pylon.

The form of the spar and its cables is claimed to evoke a picture of a harp mendacity on its edge. (The harp being the nationwide image for Eire from as early because the thirteenth century).
