This previous summer season, we celebrated my daughter’s second birthday with decor impressed by Kodomo no hello (Youngsters’s Day) in Japan. Every year on Could 5, landscapes throughout Japan are adorned with large strands of colourful koinobori, the carp-shaped windsocks, and the vacation is well known with kite flying, mochi, and different actions. We’ve at all times thought it was the sweetest vacation—celebrating the spirit of the kid—so after we adopted the decor for her occasion, I used to be on a mission in researching koinobori. This lead me to occur upon Ohayo (which suggests “good morning”), a pint-sized store in Copenhagen importing Japanese ceramics, classic textiles, and painted by hand washi paper koinobori.
Ohayo is based by three buddies—Mika, Benjamin, and Niklas—who met whereas learning design for a semester at Osaka Seikei College in 2012. They have been residing in buildings dealing with each other; the story has it that every morning Benjamin would lean out of his window and scream, “Mika! Ohayooo!!” The concept for the shop started then and was realized in 2017 after they opened their storefront close to Gammel Strand in central Copenhagen. Here’s a look inside.
