The St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, has opened on the World Commerce Middle website in New York.
The church was constructed to interchange a Nineteenth-century church that was destroyed on 11 September 2001 and is part of the redevelopment of the World Commerce Middle website.
Calatrava designed the church, which is positioned beside the 9/11 memorial constructed on the location of the previous twin towers, to be a “sanctuary for worship” in addition to a reminder of the influence of the 11 September assaults.
