Eight years in the past, Andrew and Narelle Glynn purchased a slice of land out in Trentham, Victoria, with the dream of constructing a French-inspired weekend escape and boutique accomodation.
Having beforehand lived in Toulouse for 2 years, the Francophiles have been decided to re-create the French-provincial farmhouse-style they’d come to know and love. ‘We selected Trentham for its charming township, great native companies and small group really feel,’ explains Narelle.
It took them a 12 months to construct their nostalgic weekend escape, fastidiously designing the construct to mirror the model and proportions of nation properties in France. They sourced native and European suppliers for the supplies; the home windows and doorways are from France; roof tiles from Spain; the timber flooring is engineered from 200-year-old French Oak; and the timber beams, lintels, mantles and window sills are all constructed from hardwood salvaged from piers and wharves round Australia.
‘We didn’t need the home to appear like a brand new construct, so we hand chosen every function materials to ship an aged patina,’ says Narelle.
From the second visitors to The French Home arrive, a gravel driveway leads them in direction of the pale brick farmhouse lined with creeping vines and pale blue shutters, topped with a terracotta tile roof. Out the again, eight French home windows and doorways below a grapevine-laden pergola ship sweeping views out to the equally charming parterre backyard and tennis court docket.
Andrew, Narelle and their two kids Henry and Sophie have adored being transported to France every weekend getaway – so too have visitors to the boutique lodging – however with new alternatives on the horizon, they’ve made the choice to put up for sale.
‘It’s been a privilege to create this particular dwelling,’ says Narelle. ‘We’re excited to see who would be the fortunate new proprietor.’
